What is prolotherapy?

Prolotherapy Injections

Prolotherapy is a regenerative treatment that involves injecting a natural solution into injured or weakened ligaments, tendons, or joints. These injections stimulate the body’s healing response, promoting tissue repair, shortening and strengthening previously damaged ligaments, and improving stability and function.

In podiatry, prolotherapy is used to manage chronic foot and ankle pain caused by ligament or tendon injuries, joint instability, or overuse conditions. It is commonly applied for issues such as plantar fasciopathy, Achilles tendon injuries, ankle instability, and other soft tissue problems that haven’t fully responded to conventional treatments. The goal is to reduce pain, improve stability, and restore normal foot and ankle function.

How Prolotherapy Works

Regenerative Foot & Ankle Care

Prolotherapy injections create controlled inflammation at the injection site, stimulating new collagen production. This process helps override cellular responses associated with delayed healing, increases fibroblast activity (the collagen “powerhouse”), and restores effective function to the targeted ligaments. In addition to strengthening ligaments, prolotherapy is used to treat reflex inhibition, which, if left unaddressed, can lead to muscle weakness, atrophy, and joint deformities caused by poor soft tissue strength.

Nerve & Soft Tissue Care

Perineural Injection Therapy

What is it?

When injected with a 5% glucose solution, subcutaneous nerves and their pathways are affected. Creating a positive and calming response on c-polymodal fibres. When these fibres are not injured, their main function is homeostasis of the tissue fluid. Simply put, happy c-fibres = less pain sensation felt by you!
